Faces and necks change in various ways as we age. As a result, our skin thins and loosens. Thus, cheeks deflate, necks start to hang, and we lose volume and facial fat. The shape of the face transitions from an “inverted triangle" with full cheeks and a narrower lower third to a more square form. For these reasons, some people describe this as starting with a V-shaped face in their youth and an A-shaped face as they approach middle age. Did you know that more and more people are getting facelift surgery in their 40s? According to New Beauty Magazine, forty-somethings are taking a different approach to anti-aging and undergoing Rhytidectomy surgery before they actually need a facelift.

What does this mean? Well, it means that you never look like you needed a facelift, nor had one, to begin with! Fortunately, a Facelift is capable of elegantly addressing these age-related changes to achieve a beautiful, natural-looking result.

When is the right time for a facelift?

Won’t more Botox have the same effect?

Non-surgical facial rejuvenation options such as Botox and fillers certainly serve their role. Although essential, these have no direct effect on the skin or underlying soft tissue. Because of this, when seeking facial rejuvenation, a facelift surgery remains the option best suited to address lifting facial muscles. A properly performed facelift can turn back the clock 10-15 years without making you look fake, overly tight, pulled, or windswept. As a result, you will look like yourself with the same face you had in your early 20s.

A liquid facelift is a term used to describe facial rejuvenation with non-surgical injectables, such as Botox and fillers. Hence, the term liquid as the procedure uses dermal fillers and injections to achieve a lifted result. Volume loss is a critical component of aging and can be replaced by fillers. Dr. Sailon is a master injector and performs all injections personally. It is important to note, however, that if the skin is too loose, fillers alone will not be enough and a surgical facelift may be a better option.

This is a great question and sometimes it can be a little tricky to answer. A facelift works to address aging in both the face and neck. Typically, a small incision is made in the natural crease of your ear. This allows the facial skin and muscles (also referred to as the SMAS layer) to be gently tightened. In the plastic surgery world, SMAS is an acronym for Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System. Dr. Sailon frequently combines a facelift with fat grafting (added tiny amounts of fat in the face) to restore a youthful volume and a warm glow to the skin. Also, it is common to combine a facelift with other rejuvenating surgeries such as a brow lift or blepharoplasty (eye lift).

Dr. Sailon approaches each facelift with careful attention to detail, an understanding of facial anatomy, and listens to your concerns to help you achieve natural-looking results. Every face is unique, and any approach to rejuvenation must be highly tailored to the individual. For this reason, Dr. Sailon advises patients that no two faces are the same, hence, he employs a unique approach to each facelift patient. Also, he discusses the results of your facelift surgery at length during your consultation. It is imperative that you have a realistic expectation of your post-operative outcome.

Dr. Sailon takes great pride in providing surgical results that are consistent, natural, effective and long-lasting, not merely selling you the latest gimmick. Unfortunately, cosmetic surgery is a field where aggressive marketing and deception abound. Dr. Sailon has built a reputation for his honest approach and strict ethics. For all these reasons, he does not provide thread lifts.

Surgery is performed only in facilities that meet the highest standards of safety. You will go home after surgery, accompanied by a friend or relative. Facelift surgery generally is only minimally painful, and many patients do not feel the need to take more than Tylenol for relief. You will see Dr. Sailon 1-2 days after surgery for removal of the dressing. Stitches are taken out in the office 1 week after surgery.

Afterward, light exercise can resume. On the whole, bruising and swelling resolve in the first 2 weeks. The best piece of advice Dr. Sailon gives to facelift patients is to be patient and ice, ice, ice, and more ice! Icing and sitting upright as much as possible really aid in the facelift recovery. If you wish to remain private about your surgery, we recommend waiting at least 2-3 weeks before any social engagements.
