Faces and necks change in various ways as we age. Skin thins and loosens, cheeks deflate as our facial fat loses its volume, and necks become slack. The shape of the face transitions from an “inverted triangle” with full cheeks and a narrower lower third to a more square form. Fortunately, a facelift is capable of elegantly addressing these age-related changes to create a beautiful, natural-looking result.

When is the right time for a facelift?
Won’t more Botox have the same effect?

Non-surgical options such as Botox and fillers certainly serve their role. Although important, these have no direct effect on the skin or underlying soft tissue. For facial rejuvenation, a facelift remains the gold standard. A carefully done facelift can turn back the clock 10-15 years without making you looking fake, overly tight, pulled, or windswept.

What is a liquid facelift?

A liquid facelift is a term used to describe facial rejuvenation with non-surgical injectables, such as Botox and fillers. Volume loss is a critical component of aging and can be replaced by fillers. Dr. Sailon is a master injector and performs all injections personally. It is important to note, however, that if the skin is too loose, fillers alone will not be enough and a surgical facelift may be a better option.

Please visit our non-surgical page to learn more about those particular options.

How does a surgical facelift work?

A facelift works to address aging in BOTH the face and neck. Typically, a hidden incision is made in the natural crease of your ear. This allows the facial skin and muscles (also referred to as the SMAS layer) to be gently tightened. Dr. Sailon frequently combines a facelift with fat grafting (added very small amounts of fat in the face) in order to restore a youthful volume and a warm glow to the skin. In addition, it is common to combine a facelift with other rejuvenating surgeries such as a brow lift or blepharoplasty (eye lift).

Dr. Sailon approaches each facelift with careful attention to detail, extensive experience of facial anatomy, and an artistic sensibility to consistently create beautiful, natural-looking results. Every face is unique and any approach to rejuvenation must be highly tailored to the individual.

What about thread lifts or something similar?

Dr. Sailon takes great pride in providing surgical results that are consistent, natural, effective and long-lasting, not simply selling you the latest gimmick. Unfortunately, cosmetic surgery is a field where aggressive marketing and deception abound. Dr. Sailon has built a reputation for his honest approach and strict ethics. For all these reasons, he does not provide thread lifts.

Recovery from facelift surgery

Surgery is performed only in facilities that meet the highest standards of safety. You will go home after surgery, accompanied by a friend or relative. Facelift surgery generally is only minimally painful and many patients do not feel the need to take more than tylenol for relief. You will see Dr. Sailon 1-2 days after surgery for removal of the dressing. Stitches are taken out in the office 1 week after surgery. Afterwards, light exercise can resume. Bruising and swelling largely resolve in the first 2 weeks. If you wish to remain private about your surgery, we recommend waiting at least 2-3 weeks before any social engagements.
