What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery technique that allows fat removal in unwanted places on your body. By doing so, Dr. Sailon can slim and reshape the body to provide the appearance of a more defined shape.

Liposuction is the most common cosmetic surgery procedure in the world. As a plastic surgeon, Dr. Sailon puts patient safety first above all else to help you achieve the results you desire.

Dr. Sailon uses the most advanced techniques without compromising safety. His attention to detail and surgical experience achieves the contour you desire.

Dr. Sailon will decide if the procedure is right for you.

Candidates include:

  • The patient is close to their ideal weight
  • Has a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or less
  • Has tight skin. Two factors of Liposuction are:
  • Volume – how much fat the doctor can safely remove in one session
  • Skin elasticity – the ability of the skin to “shrink" after fat removal

Liposuction must be a highly-tailored procedure:

Every person has particular concerns and all bodies have unique differences in shape and fat composition. It is critical to Dr. Sailon that you have a shared vision regarding your outcomes in order to achieve a postoperative result that is befitting for you.

What types of liposuction are there?

Dr. Sailon will asses and recommend the best technique for your procedure. A few of these techniques include:

High-Definition Liposuction
High-definition Liposuction (also known as lipoetching) highlights your body's natural contours. A common procedure is to bring out the appearance of your abdominal “six-pack" muscles. Importantly, he takes great care not to overdue this technique to avoid unnatural looking results.

Energy-assisted Liposuction
Energy devices (such as VASER) tighten the overlying skin. Energy-assisted Liposuction enhances your results by preventing skin sagging. Dr. Sailon “shrink-wraps" the skin to the underlying structures. Hardened tissue, such as that found in the back or chest, often benefits from this technique as well.

Combining Liposuction with surgical excision
Combining a traditional skin excision procedure (such as a tummy tuck.) Dr. Sailon frequently employs Liposuction in most of his tummy tucks to further contour the waist and abdomen. He applies it to areas, such as the inner thigh or arm.

Skin tightening (BodyTite)
BodyTite works by heating the undersurface of the skin to shrink and contract.

Risks have decreased over the years due to strict regulations and advance technology.

The risks include:

  • Skin discoloration around the treated area
  • Uneven skin surface
  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Infection

Every person has particular concerns, and all bodies have unique differences in shape and fat composition. Dr. Sailon individualizes each treatment plan for his patient.

The consultation will be the best time to address all your questions. He wants to clarify any concerns you have about the procedure. During your appointment, he will determine the best option for you.

What are the benefits?

Common areas such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, and face can benefit from Liposuction. Advances techniques have made the procedure have maximized safety and reduce risks. Patients can customize the results of their procedure. There are many benefits of choosing to get Liposuction, including:

  • Increased confidence: Patients become more confident and comfortable with their looks. Their problem areas are now solved. The way they look and carry themselves changes the way they feel about themselves in a positive matter.
  • Increased overall health: Reducing the amount of body fat improves overall health. With less fat, there is a reduced risk of heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers. Patients commit to a healthier lifestyle to avoid developing fat again in the targeted area.
  • Decrease Cellulite: Regardless of body fat, cellulite appears on the skin. Cellulite arises when fats push through collagen, forming dimples on the surface. Surgery is the only way to remove cellulite.

Dr. Sailon is an accredited plastic surgeon with The American Board of Plastic Surgery. With over 12 years of experience in plastic surgery, safety is his priority.

Each patient of Dr. Sailon receives exceptional, thorough patient care from start to finish.

Before the procedure begins, the doctor will administer anesthesia. Depending on the type of procedure, the medication may be local or general.

Once the medication has taken effect, Dr. Sailon will use a suction device attached to a small, stainless steel instrument called a cannula. Through small cuts, the tube inserts into the fatty areas between skin and muscle. The machine removes excess fat with either a suction pump or a large syringe. The length of time of the procedure will vary with the amount of fat.

Liposuction is typically performed as an ambulatory procedure, meaning you go home after surgery. A compressive garment is applied in the areas treated. The garment should be worn most of the day for the first month. As with any surgical procedure, swelling and bruising can be expected in the areas treated. This mostly resolves in the first 2-3 weeks and you will begin to see your new shape. You can expect improvement until about 3 months after surgery when your final results are seen.

How much time you will need off is highly dependent on which areas are being treated and how aggressively. Dr. Sailon will take care to review this with you during your consultation. Time off from work can be as little as 2 days to as much as 10 days.
